Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) the Senior Manager, Finance serves as the backbone of our financial operations, ensuring fiscal integrity through rigorous controllership and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for the full-cycle accounting process, from monthly financial statement preparation to annual audit leadership, while overseeing critical regulatory filings for the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the CRA.

Beyond the ledger, you will lead our day-to-day banking operations and provide dedicated mentorship to our finance team, ensuring all departmental workflows are optimized to meet our organizational goals.

Key Accountabilities

Controllership, Financial Statements, Budgeting, and Audit

  • Establishes and maintains best practice in the areas of internal controls, compliance with ASNPO accounting standards, and GAAP accrual accounting concepts.
  • Ensures all Balance Sheet accounts and sub-ledgers are properly reconciled each month, on-time, with proper working papers.
  • Ensures all revenue recognition follows ASNPO standards and ties back to funding and other source documents.
  • Leads the annual Audit process with the external Auditor. Ensures the team is ready for any CRL’s (Client Request Lists), and that all back-up documentation is digitized and saved in proper network drives & folders.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, working & final TB’s, P&L consolidated, and P&L by functional centre (FC).
  • Prepares & submits semi-annual HST filings.
  • Has experience building annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Reconciles OH funding monthly using IFIS docs, budget docs, and funding letters.

Regulatory Reporting

  • Collates, reviews, analyzes, and submits required statistical and financial data from each site & department for MOH and / or OH / LHIN reporting requirements. Examples include quarterly TB & SRI submissions, and the annual ARR & T3010.
  • Ensures deadlines and deliverables for regulatory reporting are proactively communicated to the necessary staff. Ensures accuracy, completeness and meets the deadlines of any and all submissions.
  • Applies funding letter details accurately to the proper FC, and ensures staff are allocated accurately for internal financial statement purposes, and for regulatory reporting purposes.

Banking & Cash Management

  • Prepares weekly and / or bi-weekly AP EFT or cheque run and obtains appropriate approvals prior to issuing payments.
  • Ensures the corporate VISA activity is monitored, regular payments are made to minimize any interest expense, and cardholder access is controlled & reviewed.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with our banking partner (ie: currently CIBC), and addresses any issues related to our banking services.

Staff Supervision & Workflow Planning

  • Ensures all Finance staff (ie: Senior Financial Analysts (SFA’s) & Intermediate Financial Analysts (IFA’s)) have the proper training and support to perform their jobs, and that they have access to the Sr. Manager, Finance for any complex troubleshooting issues.
  • Performs all performance management responsibilities for a team of four (4) direct reports. This includes periodic feedback sessions, team huddles, and the annual performance appraisal (PA) process.
  • Coaches and develops the team. Delegates deliverables when appropriate and takes active steps for cross-training and succession planning.

What We Are Looking For

  • University Degree in Business – 4 Yrs + CPA Designation.
  • 7 to 10 years of related work experience. Prior experience in an NPO / Charitable org & healthcare industry is highly desired but not mandatory.
  • Solid understanding of Charitable accounting principles and practices.
  • Advanced experience in MS Office & G-Suite.
  • Knowledge of MS Great Plains Dynamic (MS GP) or equivalent is required.
  • Strong time management, prioritization and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Should be able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Prior people leadership experience is required.
  • Strong proactive planning and communications skills are required. This position is the most senior operational person within the Finance team and sets the tone with how the team will function.
